Performance and Safety

The suspension tuning on the 2015 Murano has been softened, which creates a smooth and quiet ride if not a fast one. However, what the Murano lacks in pick up, it makes up for by its sleek appearance. 

The Murano is available in either front wheel or all-wheel drive and automatic transmission. It is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine, producing 260 hp at 6000 rpm. Another improvement to the 2015 Murano's performance includes its fuel economy, which stands at 21 city and 28 highway miles for a combined 24 mpg, which is more efficient than most crossovers with V6 engines.
 
The 2015 Nissan Murano has traded earlier models' sporty character for a more luxurious ride. The ride is smooth, and ruts and potholes are never jarring, even with the Platinum model's 20-inch wheels. 

Despite a slight reduction in weight compared to the previous-generation model, though, the new Murano leans and feels less nimble around turns. While the steering is fairly light at low speeds, it has some reassuring heft as things pick up, but it isn't particularly direct or communicative. The new Murano is most at home just swallowing up miles on the interstate, and we suspect most car buyers will find its laid back personality easy to like.
 
The carry-over V6 engine is suitably powerful and works well with the CVT. While CVTs are often associated with increased engine drone during hard acceleration, this transmission acts more like a regular automatic and simulates gearshifts. That said, accelerating up to highway speeds or passing slower traffic with authority requires an aggressive right foot, and the V6 engine sounds a bit coarse in the process.

Although it is several years old, the 2015 Murano was designed with safety considerations as a top priority. This vehicle scored four or five stars in all safety categories. All models of the 2015 Murano have antilock brakes, traction and stability control systems, hill-start assist, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, active front head restraints and a backup camera.
 
If you are the sort of driver for whom bling and safety are top priorities, then look no further than either the SL or Platinum models. Both include additional safety features, such as blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems, a 360-degree parking camera system with a moving-object detection feature, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning,and mitigations systems that automatically apply the brakes to avoid or mitigate the severity of a head-on crash.

The Murano is ideal to pack to the brim and includes 39.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row. A total of 69.9 cubic feet is created when the rear seats are folded flat. This amount of cargo space makes the Murano competitive with the Ford Edge and Jeep Grand Cherokee. 
 
The Murano comes equipped with a six-speaker sound system and a CD player, along with Bluetooth and audio connectivity, a 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera with an alert, smartphone application integrations, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack, a USB port that includes an iPod interface and a navigation system. 

One downfall of the 2015 model is that the navigation system has integration for just one application and later models offer access to additional applications with a greater functionality. However, this detail is minimized by the fact that most smart phones today have their own integrated navigation system.

Trim Levels
