Great Performance for a Small SUV

Engine

Every 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport is powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, capable of 141 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque, matched with an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Although front-wheel drive is standard across the board, all-wheel drive is available on the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport.

Acceleration and Top Speed
Performance testing on the Rogue Sport returned the following times:

Zero to 60 MPH = 9.4-9.5 seconds
Zero to 100 MPH = 34.0-34.5 seconds
The ¼ mile = 17.3-17.4 seconds

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport returned a top speed of 120 MPH.

Fuel Economy

Depending on trim level, the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport boasts an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency between 28 highway mpg, 24 city mpg, and 27 mpg combined; or 30 highway mpg, 32 city mpg, and 25 mpg combined.

Available in three trim levels, the S, SV, and SL, the Rogue Sport provides enough choice for its inaugural year without overwhelming consumers who are still trying to understand the difference between it and its older sibling, the Rogue.

Trim Levels for All Types of Buyers

Of the three trim levels, and depending on budget, most drivers will likely want to test drive the top-tier SL model, just to appreciate all the bells and whistles that this brand new CUV entrant has in spades.

S - Starting MSRP $22,380

The base S, true to its entry-level designation, is pretty basic with respect to included equipment. Features like a cloth-covered interior, a 5-inch center console display with Bluetooth phone capabilities, along with streaming audio, in addition to a four-speaker CD player, satellite radio, and USB port, stand atop 16-inch steel wheels. Also included are 60/40-split folding seats in back, joined by a rearview camera.

SV - Starting MSRP $23,980

Opting for the mid-range SV model delivers upgrades like a dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights, six-speaker sound system, roof rails, cargo management system, keyless entry and ignition, six-way power driver seat, and 17-inch alloy wheels, and a hands-free liftgate.

SL - Starting MSRP $27,030

Targeting the top-tier Rogue Sport returns a wealth of winning features like remote start, automatic high beams, the same hands-free liftgate seen on the SV, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel to match the heated front seats and leather upholstery, heated mirrors, a universal garage door opener, fog lights, automatic high beams, and 19-inch wheels. A larger, 7-inch touchscreen provides access to Nissan Connect telematics - for emergency and convenience purposes, navigation capabilities, Siri Eyes Free accessibility, and a surround-view.

Packages

Opting for the entrant or mid-level trim doesn't preclude drivers from enjoying some of these features. Pick the right package and benefit from some tech, comfort, convenience, or safety boosts.

The Appearance Package, available on the S model, features 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, wrapped in P215/60R17 all-season tires.

For the SV, the All-Weather Package ($920) includes fog lights, remote engine start with Intelligent Climate Control, a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated exterior mirror, Quick Comfort Heated seats up front, and leather-wrapped shift knob.

Jumping up the SV Premium Package ($1500) provides NissanConnect, supporting mobile apps and navigation, a 7-inch color touchscreen, Around View monitor, Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, SiriusXM Travel and Traffic Link, Moving Object Detection (MOD), and Blind Spot Warning (BSW).

Even the top-tier trim level can be further enhanced courtesy of the SL Premium Package, for example, which provides LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert, along with a sunroof.

For the SL, the Platinum Package offers drivers advanced safety features like lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, including pedestrian detection and forward collision mitigation.

Interior and Safety Features

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport gets points for its well-made interior, providing a surprising amount of room. In fact, passengers in the Sport report that its compact looks are quite deceiving, given the spacious feel of the cabin.

Although considered on par with the compact SUV segment, the Nissan Rogue Sport offers a considerable 22.9 cubic feet of space for storage. Folding the back seats down nearly triples that figure to 61.1 cubic feet of cargo area. Similar to the cargo space, the interior is in line with segment expectations concerning storage, offering just enough bins, cupholders, and door sleeves.

One of the most useful interior perks of the new Rogue Sport is presented by the Divide-N-Hide flip-up panel. Simply fold the back seats flat to store bigger objects, and use the panel to stop smaller objects from shifting, or to conceal valuables like a purse, wallet or laptop.

Drivers can opt between two cloth interior colors, Charcoal or Light Gray.

Given the 2017 Rogue Sport's new-ness, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have yet to evaluate and score the safety capabilities of this compact SUV.

However, the Rogue Sport is rife with impressive advanced safety features that should return solid safety ratings. Lane Departure Warning, Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, 360-Degree Around-View Camera, and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection are just a few of the innovative technologies that provide drivers and passengers with optimal safety on the road.
