Nissan ProPilot Assist Overview

The motoring industry is always seeking means to reduce road fatalities and to make drivers' lives easier. The latest driver assistance technologies offer the potential to reduce traffic accidents and traffic congestion, which help to reduce driver stress levels, and assist drivers in stressful parking situations.
Let's take a look at ProPilot Assist, one of Nissan's advanced driver assistance systems.
What is ProPilot Assist?
Nissan's ProPilot Assist is the driver assist system combining both Nissan's Intelligent Cruise Control and Steering Assist technology to give drivers a helping hand whilst driving. The system includes a stop-and-hold function that's able to bring the vehicle to a full stop and keep the vehicle in place and then take the vehicle up to speed once traffic is back on the move.
ProPilot Assist 2.0
ProPilot Assist 2.0 has been designed to make on-ramp to off-ramp (ramp-to-ramp) highway driving easier for the driver. This new system utilizes fitted navigation systems to assist in maneuvering the vehicle along a predefined route on any designated roadway.
The ProPilot Assist 2.0 system allows hands-free driving whilst the vehicle cruises along a single lane as long as the driver is paying attention to the road ahead. The driver's attention is monitored by the use of a dash-mounted camera. ProPilot Assist 2.0 also offers hands-on guided lane-changing capabilities.
Intelligent Cruise Control
Nissan's Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) functions by measuring the distance of the vehicle from any vehicles ahead to then automatically control both acceleration and deceleration to maintain a suitable following distance.
The ICC system uses a radar sensor mounted in the front of the vehicle to continually monitor and adjust the following distance according to the vehicle ahead's speed while the ICC speed is set by the driver. Intelligent Cruise Control helps reduce fatigue for the driver during longer journeys or while driving in highway-traffic situations.
Intelligent Steering Assist
Once the ProPilot Assist is switched on and the system detects any on-road lane markers, both the steering wheel and lane line icons on the dashboard will illuminate from gray to green to show the driver the system has been activated. The Steering Assist system will then provide small steering inputs to assist the driver to remain in the center of the lane.
Speed Adjust by Route
As part of the ProPilot Assist system, the speed Adjust by Route function assists the driver in reducing speed to safe levels for tight bends as well as when driving highway off-ramps on a predefined route. The system utilizes information fed from the vehicle's fitted onboard navigation system to adjust speed to a safer level.
Speed Limit Assist
The Speed Limit Assist function gives the driver the option to adjust the vehicle's set cruising Speed to the posted speed limit by utilizing Nissan's Traffic Sign Recognition system. This function of the ProPilot Assist system allows the driver to enjoy a more intuitive and relaxed journey without the fear of overspeeding.
